Créer Aujourd’hui

The opening of the festival will be an invitation to the Paris Opera. On the big screen, we present the programme Créer aujourd’hui, which consists of four shorter choreographies performed by top performers. The management of the Paris Opera Ballet approached contemporary dance choreographers – Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Damien Jalet, Tess Voelker and Mehdi Kerkouche – to bring new impulses to the repertoire and answer the question of what it means to “create today”. Each of the artists, is at a different stage of their career, a different notoriety and experience. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, the big star, present choreography Exposure, inspired by the photographic work of Nan Goldin, with powerful music by Woodkid. Next is Damien Jalet, who has created a large movement echo of the dramatic events of recent years in the work of Brise-Lame. Young American Tess Voelker represents the emerging creative generation with her engaging duet Clouds Inside, as does hip-hop choreographer Mehdi Kerkouche, whose work Et Si brings a whole new dance lexicon to ballet dancers. The evening Créer aujourd’hui represents a programme line of innovative recordings through which our festival brings contemporary choreographic work from around the world.
